Do you have red factor bulls?

While we don’t breed for colour, there are some bulls that are light or dark tan.

Why don’t you sell yearlings?

Because of our summer calving program, the bull calves simply aren’t old enough. After weaning in November, they undergo a full 15 months of evaluation and are sold between 19-20 months.

What is the temperament like on your bulls?

Our bulls are handled easily on foot, with a horse or a quad. They move off of pressure and respect calm, patient, and firm handling. During the months leading up to the sale, the bulls are handled often and any bulls that are difficult to handle are not offered for sale.

What are the feet like on your bulls?

Over the years we have made a conscious decision not to trim feet on breeding females (cows or heifers). Anything that doesn’t display good sound feet and longevity is strictly culled. We also maintain a closed herd, meaning rarely over the years have we brought in outside genetics to our herd, reducing the chance of introducing problems. Sale bulls are strictly evaluated for feet and legs, observing them over the 15-month evaluation period, and anything not found to be sound is culled.

What do your bulls sell for?

For 40 years, we have sold bulls through public auction. Customer demand alone drives price and fluctuates from year to year. The majority of our bulls sell to commercial producers and prices are reflected by the industry. For a sale recap and average price at past sales, please refer to the Bull Sale/Past Sales page of our website. In recent years the prices have ranged from $5000 to $12,000 with the majority of bulls selling between $6000-$8000.

If I can’t make it to the sale what can I do?

Contact Philip or John to discuss which bulls are best suited for your program. You can leave them an order or contact one of our trusted sales representatives listed in our sale catalogue. Online bidding is available through DLMS Direct Livestock Marketing Systems and Team Electronic Auction.

When are the bulls ready for viewing?

Any time. We strongly encourage you to view the bulls prior to sale day and make a healthy list of options. Viewing before sale day allows you to walk through the pens in a relaxed and spacious environment. We are happy to spend time with you answering your questions and giving personal details on each of the bulls. On sale day, bulls will be penned just outside the sale barn in groups of four bulls per pen. Come early! There are many bulls to go through and leaving lots of time to get through them will increase your confidence in bidding and purchases. Groups of bulls are sorted to complement one another genetically in performance and style. This pre-sort is a unique opportunity to assist customers with their bull selection.

Breeders Guarantee or Warranty, what do they cover?

All bulls are sold under the personal guarantee of Rawes Ranches. They are structurally sound, semen tested and guaranteed to breed your cows.

We also offer a warranty program that covers death or injury beyond our control.

In any event, you will have a bull to settle your cows!

Do you deliver the bulls and when?

We offer delivery within 30 days of the sale. Bulls left after the sale require Basic Warranty (30-day coverage) unless alternate proof of insurance is provided.
